When an aircraft encounters a patch of C.A.T. it is usually without warning, because it is very difficult to predict and detect. The aircraft can drop so rapidly that the negative ‘g’ generated can force unsecured passengers against the cabin ceiling hard enough to break the plastic moldings or the luggage racks. The worst injuries are caused when gravity returns and passengers land badly - injuring themselves and anyone they land on. Commercial aircraft very rarely encounter CAT, but over the years dozens of passengers have suffered serious injuries during these events. REMEMBER THIS THE NEXT TIME YOU FLY, AND MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE WITH YOU KNOWS WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF THEIR SEAT BELT IS NOT FASTENED WHETHER THE SEAT BELT LIGHT IS ON OR OFF.
